With the patient seated, put the cervical spine through resisted range of motion, then through passive range of motion

O'Donoghue's Manuver
Pain during resisted range of motion signifies muscle strain. Pain during passive range of motion may indicate a sprain of any of these ligaments. alar ligaments, transverse ligaments, etc.
With the patient sitting and the head slightly flexed, percuss the spinous process and associated musculature of each of the cervical vertebrae with a neurological reflex hammer.
