Diffuse Interstitial Lung Disease ‘AKA’ Diffuse Interstitial Pulmonary Fibrosis
• Inflammation and thickening of the alveolar interstitium
• Injury to the alveolar epithelial or capillary endothelial cells = infiltration by immune cells
• Progressive dyspnea and nonproductive cough
Sarcoidosis
• An acute or chronic systemic disease
• Unknown cause
• Development of multiple granulomas that affect multiple organs, most commonly the lymph nodes and lung tissue
Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis
• Lung tissue: inhale organic agents = Type III hypersensitivity reaction
• Mold, bird excrement, fungi (dehumidified water)
• Granuloma formation = thicken alveoli
• Fibrotic lung changes occur in advanced cases
