Hypersensitivity
Any inappropriate and pathologic immune response
3 types of hypersensitivity
Autoimmunity
Alloimmunity Allergy |
Autoimmunity
disturbance in tolerance of self antigens ( the body reacts against itself and the immunity system destroys healthy tissues
Alloimmunity
The immune system of one individual reacts against the immune system of the other individual
Allergy
Overreaction of the immune system to contact with environmental antigens
Type 1
IgE mediated allergic reactions are produced upon initial exposure however repeated exposures the IgE result in massive overproduction of IgE.
The IgE binds with mast cells causing them to DE granulate and release histamines |
Type 1 Reaction- Immediate Hypersensitivity reaction
Onset with a few minutes to hours after re-exposure. ie food, insects, and environmental agents
Type 1 reaction- Delayed hypersensitivity reaction
Onset within hours or days after exposure but worsen for day to weeks even after exposure has ended
Anaphylaxis
Occurs immediately . Severe and can be life threatening. Massive release of IgE. Massive mast cell degrandulation ie.. itching, swelling , flushing, profound hypertension, laryngeal edema, intense intestinal cramping, vomiting, diarrhea
Type 2 Hypersensitivity
Tissue specific reactions- Antibody attaches to a normal cell and eventually destroys it.
Type 3
Results from the formation of an insoluble antigen-antibody complex in the blood that gets deposited in vessel walls . It is slow and usually presents with non specific symptoms that increase over time
Type 4
Cell mediated reaction- T-Cells attack and destroy healthy tissue. Slow onset. Poison ivy, TB reaction
