Why are stem cells unique?
They are characterized by their ability for asymmetric replication, which means that one of the products of cell division is capable of self renewal.
Are embryonic stem cells pluripotential?
Yes. They are capable of forming all the tissues of the body, while adult stem cells are usually only able to differentiate into a particular tissue.
Where are stem cells located?
In niches. Cells located in the canals of Hering of the liver can give rise to precursor cells called oval cells, which are capable of forming hepatocytes and biliary cells.
What can satellite cells transform into?
These cells are located in the basal lamina of myotubules and can differentiate into myocytes after injury.
What about limbus cells?
These are located in the canal of Schlemm and are stem cells for the cornea.

These are located in the subendothelial space of Disse, store vitamin A.. The space of Disse is located between an hepatocyte and a sinusoid.

Near the bottom of crypts, and provide host defense against micro-organisms.
