Retinal Detachment
The partial or complete slipping of the retina from the pigmented vascular layer called the choroid
Strabismus
Failure of the eyes to gaze in the same direction due to the weaknesses of the muscles controlling the position of ones eye
Scleritis
The presence of inflammation in the white, outside covering of the eyeball. (Sclera)
Glaucoma
Occular disorders identified as a group due to an increase in the intraocular pressure.
Color Blindness (Monochromatism)
An inability to perceive visual colors sharply.
1. Daltonism- Can't tell the difference between greens and reds.
2. Achromatic Vision- Can only see the colors gray, black and white.
Macular Degeneration
Progressive deterioration of the retinal cells in the macular due to aging, known as senile. (ARMD)
Conjunctivitis
The inflammation of the mucous membrane lining the eyelids, and covering the front part of the eyeball. (Sclera)
Astigmatism
The refractive error causing light rays entering the eye to be focused irregularly on the retina due to abnormally shaped cornea or lens.
Cataract
Altering the perception of images due to interference of light transmission to the retina.
Blepharitis
Acute or chronic inflammation of the eyelid margins stemming from seborrheic, allergic, or bacterial origin.
Diabetic Retinopathy
Occurs as a consequence of long term or poorly controlled diabetes mellitus in which the tissues of the retina experience scarring due to:
1. Abnormal dilation and constriction vessels
2. Hemorrhages
3. Micro Aneurysm
4. Abnormal formation of new vessels causing leakage of blood in the vitreous humor
