What is dilated cardiomyopathy?
progressive dilation and contractile dysfunction with CHF and hypertrophy
MC type of DCM?
enlraged heavy heart with dilated chambers, histo- myocyte hypertrophy with irregularity and interstital fibrosis

genetic
autoimmune
drugs/toxins
peripartum
myocarditis (usually viral)
Iron overload
What is hypertrophic CM?
100% genetic
marker hypertrophy with myofibril disarray
-no dilation, assymetrical septal hypertrophy

What is restricitve CM?
non-compliant LV--poor filling
Causes of restricitve CM?
idiopathic, infiltrative, obliterative, radiaiton, storage disorders
What is amyloidosis?
amyloid (path protein that is mis-folded) deposited either d/t senile cardiac or systemic amyloidosis
What is the dx if a section stained with congo red shows apple green birefringence under polarized light?
Amyloidosis
What is arrhythmogenic RVCM/dysplasia?
RV- myocardial thining with fatty and fibrous replacement
-AutoD- demosome dysfunction
What is stress induced CM?
apical ballooning
see in women with no CAD
-transient systolic dysfunction
What is sarcodosis?
systemic dz that can cause restricitve CM
-non-caseating granulomas
What are the obliterative restrive CM?
Endomyocardial fibroelastosis (congenital see in first 2 years)
Endomyocardial fibrosis (tropical, M/T valves)
Loeffler endomyocarditis (large mural thrombus)
