Conjuctiva

Covering layer of the eye.

Cornea

Transparent, refracts light rays and focuses light on the retina.

Retina

Absorbs light, converts images made by the light into nerve impulses.


Have rods (sensitive to black and white vision ) and cones.

Pupil

Allows light to enter the eyes.

Iris

Expands and contracts the pupil in order to control the amount of light entering.

Lens

Focus light from the object on to the retina.

Ciliary muscle

Changes the shape of the lens inorder to focus objects at varying distances.

Suspenary ligaments

Holds the lens in position.

Fovea

Has cones only ( color vision ).

Blind spot

Has no light sensitive cells.

Aqueous humour

Moistens cornea, maintains correct pressure in the front of the eyes.

Vitreous humour

Jelly fluid which maintains the shape of the eyeball.

Choroids

Prevents internal reflection of light and nourishes retina.

Sclera

Fibrous in humans for protection.
