pupil
the hole that lets different amounts of light into the eye
cornea
a thick layer of transparent material that protects the front of the eye. Also helps to focus light.
optic nerve
carries electrochemical signals to the brain.
lens
made of flexible, jelly-like material. Brings light rays to a focus on the retina.
iris
the ring of colored tissue that controls the size of the pupil.
muscles
this controls the shape of the lens. When it is relaxed the lens is thin to focus rays from the distant objects. When it contracts the lens becomes thick to focus on close-up objects.
