Words that name a person, place,thing,idea,or quality

Words that are used in place of nouns

Verbs
Words that express action or A state of being or that help other verbs complete their meaning
ex. run,eat,sleep,tell,etc.
Adjectives
Words that modify nouns or pronouns
ex. tall,easy,green,happy,etc.
Adverbs
Words that modify verbs,adjectives,or another adverb
ex. closely,smoothly,easily,etc.
Prepositions
Words used to show the relationship of a noun or pronoun to some other word in a sentence
ex. under,around,above,to,for,of,etc.
Conjuctions
Words that connect words or groups of words
ex. and,or,but,although,etc.
Interjections
Words that exclaim or express strong feelings or suprise but have little or no grammatical connection with other words in a sentence
ex. Oh!,Wow!,Phew!etc.
Subject
Word or group of words about which the sentence makes a statement
Direct Object
Word or group of words that receives the action of a verb
Indirect Object
Precedes a direct object and indicates to whom or for whom the action of the verb is done
Object of a Preposition
Word or group of words following a preposition
Predicate Nominative
Word or group of words following a linking verb and renaming the subject of a sentence or clause
Appositive
Word that follows a nominative(noun or pronoun)
Personal Pronoun
Refers to individuals in the same way that a noun is used
ex. I,me,we,us,you,he,him,she,her,it,they,them
Personal Possessive
Indicates possession;is used in the same way that an adjective is used
ex. my,mine,your,yours,his,her,hers,its,their,theirs,whose
Indefinite
less exact
ex. anybody,anyone,each,one,many,most,either,neither,nobody,noone,one,none,all,some,any,everybody,someone,few
Relative
Connects or relates adjective clauses to the rest of the sentence
Demonstrative
Points out and identifies persons or things
Interrogative
Introduces a question
Reciprocal
Indicates an interchange of action suggested by a verb
Compound
Consider two-word pronouns to be one word
Preposition
Shows the relationship of a noun or pronoun
Conjuction
Connect words or group of words such as phrases or clauses
Coordinating Conjuctions
ex. and,or,but,nor,neither,yet etc.
Subordinating Conjuctions
ex. after,although,as,as if, as much as,as long as etc.
