Term: INFANT
|
MEANS: Newborn to One year of age (12 mo.) NOT delivery room newborns
|
|
BLS/CPR Sequence DIFFERENCES:
INFANTS |
(1) CHECK pulse in the BRACHIAL artery
(2) COMPRESSIONS, use 2 FINGERS for single rescuer &2-thumb-encircling hands technique for 2-rescuers (3) DEPTH OF COMPRESION; @LEAST 1/3 CHEST DEPTH, APROX 1.5in (4) RATE of Compression/Ventilation, 2 rescuers 15:2 (5) WHEN 2 ACTIVATE ERS: a. IF u did NOT witness the CA, r ALONE, PROVIDE 2 min CPR BEFORE leaving 2 ACTIVATE ERS & OBTAIN AED/Defibrillator b.IF SUDDEN&WITNESSED, leave infacnt ALONE, CALL 911, Get AED/Defibrillator, return to infant |
|
LOCATING INFANT PULSE:
FIND BRACHIAL Artery |
(1) Place 2 or 3 FINGERS on INSIDE of UPPER arm, between infant's ELBOW&SHOULDER
(2) PRESS INDEX&MIDDLE fingers GENTLY on INSIDE of UPPER ARM 4 >5 sec but <10 sec. |
|
INFANT BLS/CPR Sequence:
1-Rescuer |
(1) CHECK 4 response&breathing, If NONE, Shout "HELP"
(2) If someone responds, send to ACTIVATE ERS&Obtain AED/Defibrillator (3) CHECK BRACHIAL pulse >5 sec BUT <10 sec (4) No pulse or despite ADEQUATE oxygenation &ventilation, HR is <60/min w/POOR profusion, Perform compressions/breaths (30:2), begin w/COMPRESSIONS (5) AFTER 5 cycles, if NOT done, ACTIVATE ERS&get AED/Defibrillator |
|
Chest Compression Technique:
2-FINGER |
(1) PLACE infant face up on flat surface
(2) PLACE 2 fingers in CENTER of chest, BELOW nipple line, DO NOT PRESS on bottom of breastbone (3) PUSH HARD/FAST, PRESS breastbone down@LEAST 1/3 DEPTH of the chest APPROX 1.5in, smooth compressions @ rate of 100/min (4) At END of each compression, ALLOW chest to RECOIL (re-expand) completely, chest compression & expansion times are about equal (5) MINIMIZE interruptions in chest compressions |
|
INFANT BLS/CPR Sequence:
2-Rescuers |
(1) PLACE both thumbs "side by side" in CENTER of chest on the LOWER 1/2 of the breast bone but NOT the bottom, thumbs MAY overlap in small infants
(2)ENCIRCLE chest&support back w/fingers of BOTH hands (3) With hands ENCIRCLING chest, USE BOTH THUMBS 2 DEPRESS breastbone APPROX 1/3 depth of the chest (approx 1.5in) (4) DELIVER compressions SMOOTH at a rate of 100.min (5) ALLOW chest recoil AFTER EACH compression (6) AFTER every 15 compressions, PAUSE briefly for 2nd rescuer to OPEN the AIRWAY w/head tilt/chin lift&GIVE 2 breaths, ensuring chest RISES/FALLS w/each (7) CONTINUE compressions/breaths in ratio of 15:2 switching every 2 minutes to avoid fatigue |
|
INFANT BLS Sequence:
2-Rescuer |
(1) CHECK 4 response&breathing
(2) If NO response/breathing or ONLY gasping, SEND 2nd rescuer to ACTIVATE ERS&Obtain AED/Defibrillator (3) CHECK BRACHIAL pulse >5 sec BUT <10 sec (4) No pulse or despite ADEQUATE oxygenation &ventilation, HR is <60/min w/POOR profusion, Perform compressions/breaths (30:2), begin w/COMPRESSIONS, once 2nd rescuer RETURNS switch and use 15:2 ratio (5) Use AED/Defibrillator as SOON as available |
