DIFFERENCES Between:
CHILD/Adult BLS/CPR
(1) Compression/Ventilation RATIO for 2-Rescuer CPR 15:2
(2) Compression DEPTH@LEAST 1/3 the depth of the chest, approx. 2in.
(3) Compression TECHNIQUE, may use 1 or 2-handed
(4) When to ACTIVATE ERS--
a.If NOT Witnessed&ALONE--2 min.5 cycles of CPR b4 leaving 2 ACTIVATE ERS, OBTAIN Defibrillator/AED, Return 2 child
b.If Sudden&Witnessed, LEAVE 2 Activate ERS&OBTAIN Defibrillator/AED, Return to child 2 BEGIN CPR
COMPRESSION RATE for LONE RESCUER:
UNIVERSAL COMPRESSION RATE
UNIVERSAL COMPRESSION RATE for LONE RESCUER:
30 Compressions to 2 Breaths/Ventilations
FOUNDATIONAL FACTS:
Compression Depth, Adult vs. Child
ADULTS: At LEAST 2 inches DEEP
CHILDREN: At LEAST 1/3 of the ANTERIOR-POSTERIOR DEPTH of the chest or APPROXIMATELY 2 inches
CHILD BLS Sequence:
1-Rescuer
(1) CHECK for response&breathing; NONE, shout 4 help
(2) If 2nd rescuer, SEND 4 ERS&GET AED/Defibrillator
(3) CHECK Pulse (@<5 sec. NO >10 sec.); FEEL 4 CAROTID or FEMORAL pulse
(4) IF NO PULSE w/in 10 sec. or IF DESPITE ADEQUATE OXYGENATION&VENTILATION the HR is <60/min. w/signs of POOR PERFUSION, PERFORM cycles of compressions&breaths (30:2 ratio) STARTING w/compressions
(5) AFTER 5 cycles (if NOT done) ALERT ERS&obtain AED/Defibrillator&use AS SOON AS AVAILABLE
LOCATING the Femoral Artery Pulse
(1) PLACE 2 fingers on INNER THIGH, MIDWAY btwn HIP/PUBIC BONE & BELOW crease-LEG MEETS ABDOMEN
(2) FEEL 4 pulse @LEAST >5sec NO <10 sec.
(3) If NO PULSE FELT w/in 10 sec. START COMPRESSIONS using C-A-B Sequence
CHILD BLS Sequence:
2-Rescuer
(1) CHECK for response&breathing; If none, 2nd rescuer ACTIVATES ERS&OBTAIN AED/Defibrillator
(2) CHECK Pulse (@<5 sec. NO >10 sec.); FEEL 4 CAROTID or FEMORAL pulse
(4) IF NO PULSE w/in 10 sec. or IF DESPITE ADEQUATE OXYGENATION&VENTILATION the HR is <60/min. w/signs of POOR PERFUSION, PERFORM cycles of compressions&breaths (30:2 ratio) STARTING w/compressions (When 2nd rescuer arrives use 15:2)
(5) AFTER 5 cycles (if NOT done) ALERT ERS&obtain AED/Defibrillator&use AS SOON AS AVAILABLE
CHILD Ventilation w/BARRIER Devices
(1) Check mask to ensure covers mouth/nose w/o covering eyes or overlapping the chin&GOOD SEAL
(2) PERFORM HEAD tilt/CHIN lift to OPEN airway
(3) Place mask to face and ensure seal, connect supplementary oxygen 2 mask if available
CRITICAL CONCEPTS:
High Quality CPR IMPROVES SURVIVAL
HIGH QUALITY CPR CHARACTERISTICS
(1) START compression w/in 10 sec. of CA recognition
(2) PUSH HARD/FAST: Compress@rate of@least 100/min w/depth of 2in ADULTS, APPROX 2in CHILDREN; APPROX 1.5in INFANTS
(3) ALLOW COMPLETE CHEST RECOIL
(4) MINIMIZE interruptions to <10 sec.
(5) GIVE EFFECTIVE ventilation/breaths, make chest RISE
(6) AVOID EXCESSIVE ventilation
