Acute Pain |
Acute pain has a predictable ending / healing and an identifiable cause. Health care team usually treat aggressively. |

Prolonged pain, varying in intensity - persisting over 3 months or longer. Pain that continues after physical healing. The body's inability to prevent interpretation of pain signals and symptoms after injury has resolved. 1. Chronic 2. Chronic Non-Malignant - pain due to non-life threatening causes. Eg. Arthritis, lower back pain 3. Chronic benign. |

Somatic -originates in skin, muscle bone or connective tissue. Visceral - internal organs and body cavities. Neuropathic- originates in spinal cord. |
