-used to control pain, cough supression, diarrhea, sedation
-SEs: respiratory depression, constipation, sedation,n/v, ICP, orthostatic hypotension, urinary retention
-Nsg Imp: High risk for dependence and abuse
-can be used with nonnarcotic analgesics
-antidote: NARCAN
