characterization
The way characters in a story are revealed by how the author portrays them; their tendencies, personalities, quirks and ways of dress
Connotation
the way a word is used in poetry that defies its dictionary meaning.
Convention
The most important part of a literary work/ such as the moral/chorus/ an essential part of a story that customizes it.
Denouement
The solution to a story that leads up to its conclusion.
Diction
The way and style that words are written in a story that can add to the mood, portray action, and refine the characters.
Epigram
A poem that is short yet very clever.
Foil
When a character in a story is similar or bears similar traits to a character in a different story. {ie. Doppelganger]
Parody
When you make fun of an original literary work or piece and interpret it in your own way, and imitate it in that fashion.
Octave
A set of eight lines in a poem. It may take the place of a stanza.
Quatrain
A stanza with four lines contained within a poem

A poem/ and or literary work that judges human conduct and stupidities.
Sonnet
A poem that contains fourteen lines.
Complication
An exaggeration of a conflict or problem in a story.
Allegory
When writing has a deeper meaning that the author has to interpret based on the characters and conflict. [i.e. each character representing a moral.]
Blank Verse
When lines in a poem don't rhyme or have any beat or rhythmn to them.
Assonance
When you repeat similar vowel sounds in lines to a poem.
