Abilities: limited neck movement

Breathing: dependent on ventilator

Communication: Talking is sometimes difficulty, limited or impossible. Can INDEPENDENTLY utilize assistive technology with mouth stick for speech/typing. This allows Individual to give direct instruction to caregiver.

Daily Tasks: assistive technology allows for independence in page turning, telephone, operating lights and appliances with ECU.

Mobility: can operate an electric wheelchair by using a head control, mouth stick or chin control. A power tilt wheel chair is there for independent pressure relief.
C3-C4
Ability: usually has head and neck control C4 can shrug their shoulders.

Breathing: may initially require a vent, adjusts to breathing full time without.

Communication: normal

Daily Tasks: can drink from a glass with a long straw. utilizes items like page turner, can paint, use mouthstick, voice activated ECU

ADL: with adaptive equipment may have limited independence in feeding and independently operate bed with adapted controller.

Abilities: head and neck control, delts, shoulder control can flex elbow and turn palms to face up

Daily Tasks: independence in eating, drinking, face washing, face shaving and hair care after assistance in set up of equip.

Health Care: can manage own health by doing self-assist coughs and pressure reliefs by leaning forward or side to side.

Mobility: May have strength to push a manual wheelchair for short distance over smooth surfaces. A power wc with hand controls is typical for daily use. Driving may be possible with hand controls.
C6
Abilities: turn palms up and down, wrist extension

Dailiy tasks: light housekeeping duties, can hold a phone, typing stick, pen with tenodesis grasp, can play board games and some wheelchair sports.

health care: can independently do pressure reliefs, skin checks and turn in bed.

Mobility: some can do Ind. transfers, often require sliding board. can use manual wheelchair with grip attachments but greater ease with power wc.

need some caregiver assistance.

Abilities: gains elbow extension.

Daily tasks:
Feeding - Independent
Dressing: Independent but may need button hook.
Bathing - MinA, use depression transfers.
Grooming: independent using tenodesis grasp.

Health care: able to do wheelchair pushups for pressure relief

Mobility: daily use of manual wheelchair.

Abilities; added strength and precision of fingers that result in limited or natural hand function

Daily Tasks: can live independently without assistive devices in feeding, bathing, grooming, oral and facial hygience, dressing, bladder and bowel management.

Mobility: uses manual wc can transfer independently.

Can do depression transfers -

* with standby assist can transfer from WC to floor and back.
