What defines a good leaving group? (GLG)

LG = Conjugate base of a strong acid or small neutral molecule
ex. primary F (slow), primary Cl (not fast), primary Br (fast), primary I (very fast) |

Is hydroxide (OH) ever a leaving group?
|
Usually no!!! If it is, it must be combined with pyridine/TsCl first to remove the OH, then with ethanol and the reactant to form the product.
