Cell Wall
The cell wall is a rigid layer of nonliving material that surrounds the cells of plants and some other organisms. The cells of the animals, in contrast, don't have cell walls. A plant's cell wall is mostly of a strong material calls cellulose. Although the cell wall is tough, many materials, including water and oxygen, can pass through easily.

rigid layer of non-living material surrounding the cell.

found in plant cells and in bacteria
Cell Membrane
All cells have cell membranes. In cells with cell walls, the cell membrane is located just inside the cell wall. In other cells, the cell membrane forms the outside boundary that separates the cell from its environment.

the cell membrane controls what substances come into and out of a cell.

Barrier between cell and its enviroment
Nuclear Envelope
the nuclear envelope protects the nucleus. materials pass in and out of the nucleus through pores in the nuclear envelope. So aim for that pore just ahead and carefully glide into the nucleus.
Cytoplasm
gel - like fluid

suspends the organelle

dissolves important chemicals needed for life.
Chromatin
(DNA and histone proteins)

contains genetic material

contains instructions for running the cell

instructions = genes

copies are called RNA
Ribosomes
found on endoplasmic reticulum

make proteins

read RNA instructions and use them to make proteins
nucleus
directs cells activities including reproduction
nuclear
protects chromatin (DNA)

materials pass in and out through the pores
nucleolus
produces ribosomes
organelle
tiny structures that has a particular function
organelle
tiny structures that has a particular function
mitochondria
mitochondrion - one
mitochondria - more than one

change food into energy. (converts energy in food into energy that the cell can use

requires oxygen

it is made of two membranes
endoplasmic reticulum
rougher ER --> rER - transports proteins from ribosomes to the Golgi body.
rER is covered in ribsosmes.

smooth Er --> sER - produces and transports facts thoughtout the cell
vacuoles
stores food, waste and water

animal cells have many samll ones, or none at all

plant cells have one LARGE one.
Golgi body
receives proteins from rER

sorts them

packages them

sends them to other parts of the cell
- outside the cells
- membrane
- lysosome

lysosome
they contain digestive enzymes which break down old, worn out organelles and big food particles.
lysosome
they contain digestive enzymes which break down old, worn out organelles and big food particles.
chloroplast
site of photosynthesis, which ios maki9ng food from sunlight energy, and CO2. (Oxygen is a waste product.

ENERGY --> chloroplast --> food and O2 --> mitochondira --> ENERGY
