29 Cards in this Set
- Front
- Back
Anterior chamber |
Located behind the clear cornea but infront of the iris |
Choroid |
The lining of the back of the eye that provides nourishment and blood vesels to the parts of the eye including the retina |
Ciliary muscle |
One of the muscles in the eye that controls the eyes ability to focas on objects in different distances |
Conjunctiva |
The layer of protective tissue that covers the front of the eye and the inside surface of the eye lids |
Bulbar conjunctiva |
The conjunctiva that covers the sclera on the front of the eye |
Tarsel conjunctiva |
The conjunctiva on the underside of the eyelid |
Cornea |
The clear portion of the eye that ligh passes through to the retina. It has no blood or oxygen supply of its own tears supply that. |
Crystalline lense |
The lense located behind the iris that bends light to the retina . It changes its shape to let the eyes focas on objects. |
Extraocular muscles |
6 muscles that work together to rotate the eye. |
Fovea |
Part of the macula that has the sharpest vision. It has 6 to 7 million cones. |
Iris |
The colored part of the eye that constricts the cornea to let in the right amount of light. |
Macula |
A portion of the retina that surrounds the fovea. Works with the fovea to gain clear sharp vision. |
The optic disc |
Where the optic nerve leaves the eye and goes to the brain. |
Optic nerve |
The pathway where signals are sent from the eye to the brain. |
Posterior chamber |
The space behind the iris but infront of the crystalline lens filled with watery fluid called the aqueous humor. |
Pupil |
The hole in the iris that allows light into the eye |
Retina |
The part of the eye that sends signals to the brain telling it what we see. |
Sclera |
The white covering of the eye. Made up of the same tissue as the cornea just not transparent and doesnt let light in. |
Suspensory ligaments |
Thin fibers that connect the crystalline lens to the ciliary body |
Vitreous body |
The space between the lens and the retina filled with clear liquid called the vitreous humor |
Emmetropia |
Normal eyes no refraction needed |
20/20 |
When an individual sees objects 20 feet away that another person can see 20 feet away. |
Myopia |
Nearsightness, can see close up but not far away. The cornea is to long or curved so light focases in front of the retina. Written with a minus |
Hyperopia |
Farsightedness, can see far away but not up close, eye is to short for the crystalline lens to focas light on the retina, focas behind the retina, written with a plus |
Astigmatism |
When light rays dont focasin a single point on the retina but instead in a plane. Caused when the cornea and crystalline lens are not spherical. Vision is blurry at all distances. |
Presbyopia |
A condition that effects the patients near vision. As you age the crystalline lens becomes denser and looses its ability to change shape and focas on objects at different distances. |
OD |
Oculus dexter (right eye) |
OS |
Oculus sinister (left eye) |
OU |
Oculi uterque (both eyes) |
