Inspiration
Inspiration is the supernatural direction by God the Holy Spirit upon the writers of Scripture so that they recorded with perfect accuracy God's message to man. This influence guided them even to the extent of their words, that they might be kept from all error and omission. Inspiration does not exclude author's human intelligence, individuality, literary style, emotional make up, or any other human factor.Inspiration extends : to the very words (verbal); to every part of scripture (plenary); to the original autographs and to the writings not the writers.

1. J (Jahwist) was written ca. 850 B.C by an unknown person from the Southern Kingdom.
2.E(Elohist) was written ca.750 B.C by an unknown person from the Northern Kingdom. 3.Unknown redactor combined J and E documents into one document J-E ca.650 B.C. 4.D (Dueteronomist) was written under hte authority of the High Priest Hilkiah under the reform of Josiah in 621 B.C. It was designed to compel the Judeans to abandon the high places of worship in Jerusalem 5. P (Priestly) was written in stages from Ezekiel(ca. 570 B.C) to Ezra. It is concerned with the systematic account of the origins and institutions of the Israelite theocracy. |
Historical Supporter of the Documentary Hypothesis
Julius Wellhausen
Four objections to the Deuteronomy Hypothesis
1.No manuscript evidence to support the theory.
2. The theory is guilty of a priori and circular reason. The a priori assumption is that there can be no supernatural revelation. If the text does not fit the theory, the evidence is ignored(it is called the work of the late redactor) |
Four objections to the Deuteronomy Hypothesis(cont'd)
3. Wellhausen's approach concerning the development of Israel's religion. which was the foundation for acceptance of the present hypothesis is now largely discredited; yet the theory still stands.
4.There is a great diversity of critical opinion (as to the number of sources ,identification of sources, etc.) which shows the subjectivity of the approach. |

Uniformitarianism
the "belief that the present is the key to the past-given sufficient time, processes now at work could account for all the geological features of the globe"
Evolution and uniformitarianism rebuttal
1.Evolution is a denial of the creation account and the flood. 2 pet 3:3-7
2.The denial impacts the inspiration of Scripture , the authority of Christ(Matt 19:4-6) and the authority of Paul(1 Tim 2:13) All teaching concerning original sin is denied; in particular , if there is no first adam, and no fall, then why the need for a second adam to redeem? |
Evolution and uniformitarianism rebuttal(cont'd)
uniformitarianism is a huge assumption, without any evidence for it( and in fact, mountain fromations can't be explained by this theory, nor can ephemeral markings such as ripple marks on fossils, indicating a quick burial). It denies any sort of catastrophic event.
