Talk about the the transition of the throne between David and Solomon.

David is old and with the help of Joab (commander) and Abiathar (priest) his son Adonijah is proclaimed king. David instructs prophet Nathan to anoint Solomon as King. Solomon kills Joab, Adonijah.

Talk about Solomon's character and accomplishments.

Solomon obeys god and god grants him one wish: wisdom to govern with justice and know the difference between right and wrong. God blesses him immensely. Solomon builds an elaborate temple to God and a place for himself in Jerusalem (480 after Israel’s exodus from Egypt). Ark of the covenant is placed insed the temple. God promises to dwell there as long as Solomon/Israel are obedient.

Discuss Solomon's fall.

Solomon marries many foreign women and begins to falter erecting altars and worshiping foreign deities. God tells Solomon that he will dismember the kingdom all but Judah to remain since Solomon is David’s son.

Who is Jeroboam?

A prophet and God choose Jeroboam, one of Solomon’s officials, is chosen to rule as Israels new king. When Solomon dies, his son Rehoboam assumes the throne. Jeroboam is crown king in northern kingdom and erects idols that even priests worship. A prophet warns him of destruction and so it happens, his family is slaughtered as someone else tries to take the throne. In the south, Rehoboam also erects shrines and prostitution in them. The Kingdoms begin to fight each other. Rehoboam eventually dies.

Who takes power and is known to be an evil king?

Various kings succeed them and many end up being more evil than the previous continuing to worship foreign gods. Ahab becomes Israel’s most wicked king and with his wife Jezebel spreads cult worship of Baal.
