3 chambers: a collection chamber, water seal chamber (middle chamber), and wet suction control chamber

-requires sterile fluid be instilled into water seal & suction chambers
-has pos & neg pressure release valves
-intermittent bubbling indicates that system in functioning properly
-additional suction can be added by connecting system to a suction source

has 3 chambers: a collection chamber, water seal chamber (middle chamber), & wet suction control chamber
