What is DNA

Deoxyribosenucleic acid for the inherited genetic material inside each cell. 46 chromosomes per cell. Each gene is a segment of DNA molecule and determines the traits inherited and by controlling protein synthesis they regulate most cell activity.

Ribonucleic acid (RNA)

Relays instructions from the genes to guide protein synthesis at the ribosomes.

Label this

RNA is

Single strand not helical

I'm DNA the bases are

Adenine

Thymine

Cytosine

Guanine

In RNA the bases are

Adenine

Cytosine

Guanine

Uracil

DNA is like a twisted ladder called a double helix

The sides are alternating phosphate groups

The rungs are paired bases held together by hydrogen bonds

The order of the nucleotides along the molecule codes for informations

the informations determines the traits you inherit as well as regulating what happens in the cell and when it happens.

Label diagram

Phosphate, Pentose sugar. A-T G-C

Label

Phosphate, ribose sugar A,U,G,C

The 3 types of RNA

Messenger RNA

Transfer RNA

Ribosomal RNA

All three types of RNA play a role in protein synthesis
