Acetylsalycylic acid (aspirin)

Type: NSAID


Topical use: keratolytic, antifungal, counterirritant


Systemic use: antipyresis, analgesia, inflammatory diseases, thromboembolic prophylaxis


Adverse effect: gastrointestinal, hypersensitivity, overdose toxicity, analgesic nephropathy, Reye's syndrome

Sodium salicylate

Type: NSAID

Mesalamine

Type: salycilic derived NSAID

Piroxicam

Type: oxicam NSAID


Use: postoperative pain, musculoskeletal disorders, headache, dysmenorrhea, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, gout

Ibuprofen

Type: proprionic acid derived NSAID


Use: analgesic, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory


Adverse effect: nausea/vomiting, drowsiness, tinnitus, heart failure exacerbation, prolonged bleeding, skin rashes

Naproxen

Type: proprionic acid derived NSAID

Indomethacin

Type: Indole derived NSAID


Use: rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, bursitis, tendinitis, ankylosing spondylitis, acute gout, accelerate closure of patent ductus arteriosus


Adverse effects: similar to other NSAIDs + cardiovascular and hematologist effects, pancreatitis, hyperkalemia, psychosis

Diclofenac

Type: acetic acid derived NSAID


Use: rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis


Adverse effect: similar to other NSAIDs

Ketorolac

Type: Acetic acid derived NSAID


Use: acute pain


Adverse effect: chronic use associated with peptic ulceration and renal impairment

Celecoxib

Type: coxib type NSAID. Selective Cox-2 inhibitor


Use: Analgesic, antipyretic, anti inflammatory


Adverse effects: fewer than other NSAIDs

Acetaminophen

Type: analgesic antipyretic


Use: antipyretic, analgesic (mild to moderate pain not caused by inflammation)


Adverse effects: liver toxicity.
