1911 new york. Fire in 10 story building clothing manufacturing. Killed 146 mostly ladies jumping from the building. Led to NFPA, 101 life safety code which requires means of egress.

Cocoanut grove nightclub fire

Boston 1942. Single story nightclub killed 492. Due to overcrowding and cumbustible interior, and lack of lighting. Led to stricter fire and life safety requirements from assembly type occupancies

Ringling brothers and barnum and bailey circus fire

Hartford Connecticut 1944. 168 killed in tent fire. Let to life safety standards for tents.

Our Lady of the angles school fire

Chicago 1958. Killed 92 chideren and three teachers. Due to unprotected stairwells, cumbustible interior, and lack of fire alarm. Led to better fire detection and alarms, enclosed stairwells, and fire drills.

MGM Grand hotel fire

Nevada 1980 killed 85, injuries 679. Unspriklered hotel, smike went up stairwells, elevator shafts and ventilaton shafts killing most of the victims. Led to high rise having sprinkers.

Station night club fire

Rode island 2003. 150 killed. Pyrotechnics ignited fire. No sprinklers. Main cause of death, was trampled to death or smoke inhalation due to bottle neck ing in main exit instead of other exits. Led to sprinkler changes and crowd management requirement for nightclubs

Murrah building bombing

Oklahoma City bombing 1995. Truck bomb exploded killing 168. Led to increased emphasis on structural collapse, confined space training, and search and rescue.
