Empirical therapy for meningitis
Ceftriaxone 2g (or 50mg/kg) bd
(bring out the big stuff, usual does for ceftriaxone is 1g once a day!!)

AND

Benzylpenicillin 2.4g (or 60mg/kg) 4 hourly IF listeria suspected ( in older and immunocompromised)

AND

Vancomycin 1.5g (or 30mg/kg) bd if strept pneumoniae likely as it has high resistant to penicillin/cephalosporin
Steroid therapy for meningitis
Dexamethasone 10mg (or 0.15mg/kg in children) with or before antibiotics dose to improve neurological outcome

Not proven in neonates
Empirical therapy for neonates meningitis
Cefotaxime 50mg/kg up to 2g and benzylpenicillin 50mg/kg up to 2.4g q4 hourly
Empirical therapy for the allergic for meningitis
vancomycin 1.5 g (30mg/kg) and ciprofloxacin 400mg (10mg/kg)
Prophylaxis for contacts for meningitis

Those with documented N meningitides infection
Rifampicin 10mg/kg for 4 days

Alt: Ciprofloxacin

What is contraindicated for Thrombolysis of Stroke that is not contraindicated in MI 

1. Coagulopathy
