Schutzstaffel
SS, Protection squadron, provided security for Nazi party members.
Black Order
Nickname for the SS, who ran the concentration camps. Named so because of black uniforms, was a criminal organisation.
Sicherheitsdienst - security force in 1931
Security service, intelligence agency of the Nazi party, considered a sister organisation to the Gestapo

The first SS division, Adolf Hitler's personal guard.
Heinrich Himmler
Reich fuhrer of the Schultzstaffel, leading member of the Nazi party. Chief of German police/ Gestapo. Overseer of concentration camps and killing of 6 million Jews. Most directly responsible for the holocaust.
"Blood and soil"
An ideology that ties land and people together, namely Aryans and German land.
SS Marriage order
Order created by Himmler paired "superior" individuals together. Goal to purify Germans. New generation would make up SS, made up Aryan race, looked slavic.

Secret service, concentration camps, Police force.
The Gestapo (German Staats Polizei - State secret Police)
Relied on informers, secret police means people didn't know who they were. Anybody could be an informer, in reality had about 10,000 people.
SS State
Just the police SS under Himmler, self sufficient, ran their own businesses.
