Who was leader of Germany before WW2?

Kaiser Wilhelm II. He was the hereditary monarch of Germany from the 15th of June 1888 to the 9th of November 1918 when he abdicated after the November Revolution.

Who was the first President of the Weimar Republic?

Friedrich Ebert. He was elected on the 10th of November 1918 after the Kaiser abdicated and the Weimar Republic was established, he was the leader of the Social Democratic Party.

Who decided the terms of the Treaty of Versailles?

The Big Three composed of: Lloyd George, the British Prime Minister; Woodrow Wilson, the USA President; and Clemenceau, the French Preisdent.

Who led the Spartacist Uprising?

Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Libeneckt. They were communists, on the 5th of January 1919 they staged an uprising in Berlin, seizing the headquarters of the government newspaper and tried to organise a general strike. The Freikorps crushed the uprising by the 15th and shot Rosa and Karl.

Who led the Kapp Putsch?

Dr Wolfgang Kapp. He was an extremist nationalist who led the Freikorps to Berlin in March 1920 where he set up a new government however the Trade Unions organised a general strike cutting off gas, electricity, food and coal however the army would not move against Kapp.

Anton Drexler. He formed the German Workers Party in 1919 and when Hitler was sent to examine the Party he became the 7th member, in 1920 Hitler changed the name to the Nazi Party and in 1921 he took over as Party leader.

Gustav Stresemann. He was chancellor from August 1923 to November 1923 however he was unpopular and became Foreign Secretary until he died in October 1929, he called of passive resistance in the Ruhr and introduced a temporary currency called the Rentemark which was replaced a year later by the Reichmark which solved the problem of hyperinflation.

Who was blamed for starting the Reichstag fire?

Marius van der Lubbe. A Dutch communist, this allowed Hitler to rule by decree as it was classed as a state of emergancy.
