What is Science?
observation, identification, description, experimental investiagtion, and theoretical explanation of phenomena.
What is technology?
the application of the information provided by science, thus creating processes and producing items that meet human demands.
Objectivity
the ability to present material based only on facts-- uninfluenced by emotions or personal biases.
Subjectivity
the presentation of material as influenced by personal opinions, biases, or emotions.
What is a theory?
an idea or an explanation of phenomena (observed events).
Inductive reasoning
a type of reasoning that results in a general rule based on the analysis of individual instances.
Deductive reasoning
a typ of reasoning that makes use of a general rule to predict results or events.
Empirical research
research that is observational.
What is a hypothesis?
an educated guess concerning the explanation of phenomena.
What is a law?
a statement that describes how nature seems to behave under certain conditions.
Scientific model
a representation of a theory, usually in the form of an illustration, an analogy, a mathematical equation, or an actual physical structure.
Ethics
inquiry into the moral suitability of an action or idea, into what is right or wrong, and into what is good or evil.

Summer solstice
the day on which the sun rises to its most northern point along the horizon and reaches its maximum height overhead at noon. On this day, the hours of daylight are at a maximum.
Winter solstice
the day on which the sun rises to its most southern point along the horizon and reaches its maximum height in the sky. This is the shortest day of the year for sunlight.
Equinox
a day on which the number of hours of daylight equals the number of hours of darkness.
