Plot
What happens in a story from beginning, through the middle, to the end. (The main events) - Plot include: exposition, conflicts,rising action, climax, falling action and resolution
Conflict
- The issue, struggle, challenge, obstacle, or problem that needs to be resolved in a story. -Conflicts can be internal. ( in a character's mind) or external ( such as between 2 characters).
Resolution
- The way the conflict is "solved", the outcome of the conflict. Usually near the end of the story.
Setting
- Where the story takes place and the time period (When Past? Present? Future? Year?)-may include season,day,night, country/state, city/small town,etc- atmosphere-how the setting presents a feeling of some sort (ex:spooky or calm)
Character Qualities
-A character's personality traits. They can be shown through acharacter's actions, words, and thoughts. (ex: selfishness, kindness, pride,funny) -Characterization is the actor art of creating and developing a character (can be direct or indirect)
Theme
-The central message or big idea about life that the author is trying to communicate to readers. Ex: Hard work pays off, Patience will help you in life, Sometimes growing up can be difficult, Be thankful for having good friends.
Character Motive
- The reason for the character's actions,(and sometimes the reason for thoughts, feelings and speech too). -What the character really wants. Ex : One motive for trying my best on homework would be to earn good grades.
