- abducts Chryssipus, cused by Pelops
- goes to Delphi: prophecy that he will be killed by his son, Oedipus
- returns to Thebes, marries Jocasta

Oedipus, part one

- prophecy at birth: kill father, marry mother
- Laius gives baby to shepherd to leave in mountain, shepherd trades with man from Corinth
- raised by Polybus and Merope, rulers of Corinth
- finds out he's not there son, goes to Delphi, told not to return home, goes to Thebes

Oedipus, part two

Back 5

- kills father in road rage
- defeats Sphinx, marries Jocasta
- has 4 children, 2 important: Antigone and Eteocles
- famine on Thebes, sends Creon to Delphi, Pythia tells him king-killer is still alive
- decrees that guilty party will be exiled, not killed
- asks Tiresias, tells him the truth but doesn't believe him
- messenger/shepherd shows up to get Oedipus because Polybus is dead - tells Oedipus he's not actually their son
- Jocasta kills herself, Oedipus cuts out own eyes and exiles himself
- ends up in Athens with Antigone

Front 6

Seven against Thebes

Back 6

- sons of Oedipus, Eteocles and Polynices decide to rule each for a year at a time
- Polynices goes to another city and makes 6 friends
- returns and Eteocles won't give up throne
- Polynices attacks Thebes with 6 friends
- brothers kill each other on battlefield
- Antigone returns and defies Creon's law to bury her brother
- Epigoni return years later and destroy Thebes (revenge) - 1200 so not in Trojan War

Thyestes and Atreus

Back 7

- told at Delphi that whoever received the golden fleece from Pan would found a great city
- Atreus got it first - founded Mycenae
- Thyestes, helped by Atreus' wife, sneaks in a steals fleece, who promptly steals it back
- Atreus, as punishment, kills T.'s two sons and cooks them
- T. brings down another curse on house of Atreus
- leaves and has son with daughter, Aegisthos

- saves it - rewarded by king - 50 daughters
