- messenger/shepherd shows up to get Oedipus because Polybus is dead - tells Oedipus he's not actually their son
- Jocasta kills herself, Oedipus cuts out own eyes and exiles himself
- ends up in Athens with Antigone
Seven against Thebes
- sons of Oedipus, Eteocles and Polynices decide to rule each for a year at a time
- Polynices goes to another city and makes 6 friends
- returns and Eteocles won't give up throne
- Polynices attacks Thebes with 6 friends
- brothers kill each other on battlefield
- Antigone returns and defies Creon's law to bury her brother
- Epigoni return years later and destroy Thebes (revenge) - 1200 so not in Trojan War
Thyestes and Atreus
- told at Delphi that whoever received the golden fleece from Pan would found a great city
- Atreus got it first - founded Mycenae
- Thyestes, helped by Atreus' wife, sneaks in a steals fleece, who promptly steals it back
- Atreus, as punishment, kills T.'s two sons and cooks them
- T. brings down another curse on house of Atreus
- leaves and has son with daughter, Aegisthos
