Theme
The main or central idea.
Omniscient Narrator
Who appears to know everything about the story being told. Even what they think.
Third-Person Narrator
Does not describe his or her role in the action.
First-Person Narrator
Refer to themselves as "I". inderictly or directly involved.
Third-Person Limited Narrator
Observe the situation from the outside through senses and thoughts of a character.
Inference
The attempt to generalize on the basis of limited info.
Characterization
Graphic or vivid verbal description.
Direct Characterization
Stating or describing a characters traits.
Indirect Characterization
Showing a characters personality through his or her actions, thoughts,feelings,words,appearance
Character Trait
A characters traits. Examples: Awkward,Bossy,Brave,Dull,Fearful.
Motivation
Learners orientation with regard to goal. Behavior.
Protagonist
Main Character. Most Important
Antagonist
Opponet. Opposing in conflict with the main character.
Exposition
A setting forth of meaning or intent.
Plot
The sequence in events in a story.
Conflict
Natural disagreement. Refer to attitudes,beliefs,values or needs.
Internal Conflict
Is a struggle of opposing forces within a character.
External Conflict
Is a struggle with another character against nature,society, or fate.
Resolution
The End. Where things clear up.
Climax
Most intense conflict/crisis, ussualy very close to the end.
Setting
Time and place in which action occurs.
Round Character
A character with complex, and many-sided moral qualaties.
Flat Character
Only has one or two distiguishing moral qualaties.
Suspense
Uncertainty, being unsure about something.
Flashback
Before time of the current narration or current events.
Nonfiction
True info, Not a made up story.
Autobiography
Written by the subject.
Memoir
Memory
Biography
Written history of a persons life.
Essay
Moderately breif prose composition on a limited topic.
Formal Essay
serious written discussion through which a writer conveys a viewpoint.
Personal Essay
Short composition that deals with a subject drawn directly from a writers life.
Personification
Ascribing human characteristics to animals,ideas,or inanimate objects.
Narrative Essay
A narration tells a story of an event or experience.
Expository Essay
Other peoples views or to report about an event or situation.
Persuasive Essay
Short composition intended to sway readers to the writers point of view.
