Bess comes to town with Crown. In crap game Crown kills Robbins, flees. Porgy takes Bess in. Serena has to raise money for Robbins' burial. Peter is accused of murder + put in jail. Church picnic on Kittiwah Island. Clara dies in storm with husband. Crown comes back for Bess, Porgy shows extra strength + kills him. Porgy goes to jail, Bess tricked to NYC, Porgy follows.

Major plot points of Oklahoma!

Laurey asked to box formal by Curly and Jud. Ballet sequence shows fear of Jud. Curly puts up livelihood for Bess at box social. Overarching theme of ranchers (Curly) vs farmers (Laurey), eventually coming together in one union. Show about accepting foreigners written by two jews just after WW2-- Ado Annie + Ali Hakim represent this

Lt. Joe Cable has secret mission to get Emile to help him scout out other islands for Japanese ships. Nellie (navy nurse) is told to find out as much as she can about Emile. They fall in love, but E has two mixed race children and N's racism won't let her be with him. Cable falls for Liat, Bloody Mary's daughter, but same racism keeps them apart. He dies on mission, Emile lives, but Nellie has overcome her prejudices when she thought she had lost him.

Major plot points of Sound of Music

Maria, a flighty nun, is sent to govern von Trapps kids. Cpt. runs his home like a battleship and is engaged to Elsa (but no ballads=no real love). While cpt. is gone, Maria teaches the kids joy and wins them over. Cpt. returns enraged but realizes how he wants to know and love his kids. During party, Maria realizes she loves Cpt. and there is tension about Nazis. Elsa and Max think laying low against Nazi's is best. Maria and Cpt. are married two weeks later. After honeymoon they realize Anschluss has happened. Rolf, Leisl's love, is now a supporter. Cpt. is mandated into service for the Third Reich-- gain some time by having to sing at Salzburg music festival (big deal). Escape during So long, Farewell and hide in abbey. Then make long trek over mountain, out of Austria.

Major plot points of Fiddler on the Roof

1905, Russia. Tevye is milkman with 5 daughters who is very set in his tradition. Yente=matchmaker trying to marry off eldest 3. Tzeitel rejects Lazar Wolf, wants tailor Motel. At wedding there is a minor pogrom (anti-Jew demonstration/disruption). Hodel loves Perchik=political activist. Do not seek Tevye's blessing but just want to tell him. Promise to be married in proper Jewish way-- in Siberia where Perchik is arrested. Chava falls for Russian soldier--too much for Tevye, can not bend his traditions this far. Community has 3 days to leave Anatevka, most go to America. Chava and Russian wanted by neither side-go to Poland.

Major plot points of Cabaret

Kit Kat club=Nightclub in Berlin in 1920s. Cliff Bradshaw=American writer gets room with Fraulein Schneider. Sally Bowles=English performer at KKClub, moves in with Cliff after breaking up with owner and bf, Max. Cliff does errand for Ersnt, finds out it was for Nazi party, disgusted and moving back to America.Schneider gets engaged to Herr Schultz. Sally meant to marry Cliff but goes to club to perform when he wants to leave. She gets an abortion and tells Cliff she's not leaving with him. Schultz moves to safer part of Berlin-engagement dissolved. MC promises all troubles forgotten at club, sparkly at first, now crumbling and dying.

Major plot points of The Producers

Try to write flop to make off with money. Show about Hitler is wild success. Max Bialystock + Leo Bloom. Leo is accountant, Max flirts with old women for money. Find Franz Leibkind's play=worst ever written, sure to offend people of every kind. Roger de Bris directs=flaming homosexual. Franz becomes Hitler's actor, but break leg n opening night. Roger steps in. Audience mistakes for satire and loves it. Max and Leo panic. Franz, murderous, and Max both taken away to jail. Leo and Ulla run to Rio with $. Max=Betrayed. Leo comes back to testify, judge is touched and sends them both away to Sing Sing prison. Write another show, becomes major hit (staring Roger and Ulla), they are pardoned. Become Kings of Broadway again.
