Describe the origin and insertion of the tibialis anterior muscle
Origin-Lateral condyle and upper 2/3rds of the lateral surface of the tibia. The interosseous membrane and the deep crural fascia
Insertion- Medial plantar surface of the medial cuneiform and base of the 1st met.
What nerve innervates the tibialis anterior?
The Deep fibular (peroneal) nerve
What are the functions of the tibialis anterior?
Dorsiflex and invert at the ankle. Also a suppinator (adduction and inversion) at intertarsal joints
Describe the anotomical position of the EHL
Just lateral to Tibialis Anterior. The anterior tibial vessels and deep peroneal nerve lie between it and the tibialis anterior.
Describe the origin and insertion of the EHL
Origin: Middle 2/3rds of the anterior surface of the fibula, medial to origin of EDL.
Insertion: The base of the distal phalanx of the 1st digit and an additional slilp into the base of the 1st met.
What nerve innervates the EHL?
Deep fibular (peroneal) nerve
What are the functions of the EHL?
Extension at 1st MPJ and dorsiflexion at the ankle joint and supination at the intertarsal joints.
