origin- pubis insertion- sternum, costal cartilage, and some ribs Action- flexes vert. column, supports and compresses abdominal viscera.
trapezius
Origin: Occipital bone: ligamentum nuchae; spines of c7 and all thoracic vertebrae
Insertion: acromion and spinous process of scapula
Action: stabilizes, raises, retracts and rotates the scapula. the superior fibers elevate, the middle fibers retract, and the inferior fibers depress the scapula. together the upper and lower fibers rotate the arm.
latissimus dorsi
Origin: Indirect attachment to spinous processes of lower six thoracic vertebrae, lumbar vertebrae, last 3 to 4 ribs and iliac crest
Insertion: Floor of intertubercular sulcus of humerus
Action: Prime mover of arm extension, adducts and medially rotates arm: depresses scapula, brings arm down in power stroke
Rhomboid major
Origin: spinous process of c2 and t1-t5
Insertion: medial boarder of scapula
Action: Pulls scapula medially stabilizes scapula, rotates glenoid cavity downward

Biceps Brachii short head
Origin:coracoid process Insertion:radial tuberosity Action:flex forearm
Gracilis
Origin: Inferior margin of the pubic symphysis, inferior ramus of pubis, and adjacent ramus of ishium Insertion: Medial surface of tibial shaft, just posterior to sartoius Action: adducts thigh; flexes and medially rotates leg
Quadriceps
Rectus femoris
Origin: anterior iliac spine and superior margin of acetabulum
Insertion: tibial tuberosity oand patella
Action: extends knee and flexes thigh at hip
Quadriceps
Vastus lateralis
Origin: greater trochanter, intertrochanteric line, and linea aspera
Insertion: tibial tuberosity oand patella
Action: extends and stabilizes knee
Quadriceps
Tensor fasciae latae
Origin: Anterior aspect of iliac crest and anterior superior iliac spine
Insertion: Illotibial tract
Action: flexes, abducts, and medially rotates thigh
gluteus maximus
Origin: dorsal ilium, sacrum, and coccyx
Insertion: Gluteal tuberosity of femur and iliotibial tract
Action: extends and laterally rotates thigh, lower part: extends, laterally rotates thigh and assists in raising the trunk from a flexed position. also assists in adduction of the hip joint
Hamstrings: Biceps femoris
Origin- Long head: ischium, Short head: femur. Insertion- fibula and tibia Action- extends thigh at hip.
Hamstrings: semitendinosus
Origin: ischium tuberosity Insertion: medial aspect of upper tibial shaft Action: Flexes knee, extends thigh
Hamstrings: semimembranosus
Origin: ischium tuberosity Insertion: medial condyle of tibia. Lateral condyle of femur. Action: flexes knee, extends thigh, medially rotates leg
Tibialis anterior
Origin- Tibia
Insertion- By tendon into inferior surface of first cuneiform and metatarsal 1
Action- dorsiflexes and inverts foot. Supports arch of foot
Gastrocnemius
Origin: By 2 heads from medial and lateral condyles of femur.
Insertion: Calcaneus via calcaneal tendon
Action: plantar flexes and inverts foot, flexes knee
Soleus
Origin: Proximal portion of Fibula and tibia
Insertion: calcaneus via calcaneal tendon
Action: plantar flexes and inverts foot, important for locomotion
