External Oblique muscle
- Compresses Abdominal contents, bends and twists trunk.
- innervation: T2-T12 anterior rami
- Ribs 5-12 to Iliac crest and linea alba.
Internal oblique muscle
- compresses abdominal contents, bends & twists trunk.
- innervation: T7-L1 anterior rami
- Thoracolumbar fascia, iliac crest and inguinal ligament to inferior ribs, lineal alba, pubic crest.
Transversus abdominus muscle
- compresses abdominal contents
- T7-L1 anterior rami (same as internal oblique)
- thoracolumbar fascia, iliac crest, inguinal ligament, inferior ribs to lineal alba, pubic crest.
Rectus abdominus muscle
- compresses abdominal contents, flexuse verterbral column, tenses the abdominal wall.
- T7-T12 anterior rami.
- Pubic crest, pubic tubercle and pubic symphysis to costal cartilages of ribs 5-7 & xiphoid process.
Psoas major
- flexes the thigh at the hip joint
- innervation: L1-L3 anterior rami
- T12-L5 verterbrae to the lesser trochanter of femur.
Psoas minor
Weakly flexes the lumbar region of the vertebral column.
- innervated by L1 anterior ramus.
- attached at T12-L1 vertebrae to pectineal line of the pelvic brim of the iliopubic eminence.
quadratus lumborum
depresses and stabilizes rib 12
- innervation: T12-L4 anterior rami
- L5 transverse process, iliolumbar ligament & iliac crest to L1-L5 transverse process and rib 12.
Iliacus
flexes thigh at hip joint.
- innervation: femoral nerve
- iliac fossa, sacrum to lesser trochanter of femur.
