Origin of muscle

Point where the muscle starts; it is the stable fixed point. The insertion point moves towards the origin

Anatomical position

Upright position with palms facing forward.

Flexion

Decrease in the joint angle.

Extension

Increase in joint angle.

Hyperextension

Continuation of extension beyond the anatomical position.

Lateral flexion of the trunk.

Movement of the trunk sideways.

Abduction

To move away from midline

Adduction

To move towards the midline

Protraction

Shoulders forward.

Retraction

Shoulders back.

Medial rotations

Bone is rotated towards the midline.

Lateral rotations

Bone is rotated away from the midline.

Supernation

Palms are turned anteriorly
