You can't tell. Most of the plaques/lesions are clinically silent.
Can you dx MS with oligioclonal bands?
no.
Would it be a good idea for a person with MS to get a flu shot? why or why not?
Sure. It is thought that flu virus can trigger MS.
What is the primary way of preventing the progression of MS (Rx-wise)?
Immune modulating agents
What is the main way to control symptomatic MS?
Steroids

What do IFNs do for MS?
Prevent proliferation of T-cells (INTERFERE with t-cell), stabilize BBB
How does glatiramir acetate work?
somehow drives the immune system in an anti-inflammatory direction. Can cross the BBB and be good for brain
How does Mitoxantrone work?
Knocks out T cells
How does Natalizumab work? What is the issue?
Blocks VCAM in brain...no crossing of T-cells. May cause progressive multifocal leukoencephalopath (PML...activation of JC Virus)
What is Lhermitte's sign?
Bend neck and feel shock
What are used for parasthesias in MS?
Anti-convulsants and anti-depressants
