Prime Meridian
The most important line of longitude. Located at 0
longitude.
Equator
The latitude line that circles earth around its middle. Located at 0 latitude.
Hemispheres
Two equal halves.
Northern Hemisphere
Any place on earth north of the Equator.
Southern Hemisphere
Any place on earth south of the Equator.
Eastern Hemisphere
Any place on earth east of the Prime Meridian.
Western Hemisphere
Any place on earth west of the Prime Meridian

A part of an ocean or lake that is partly enclosed by land.
coast
Land that borders a sea or ocean.
harbor
A sheltered area of water where ships can anchor.
lake
A body of water that is almost completely surrounded by land.
marsh
Low land that is wet and soft.
peninsula
A piect of land almost surrounded by water.
canyon
A deep narrow valley with steep sides.
gulf
Part of an ocean or sea that reaches into land. It is larger than a bay.
island
An area of land that is surrounded by water.
plain
A broad stretch of level or nearly level land.
mountain range
A group of connected mountains or steep, high land areas.
plateau
A large level area of high land.
source of a river
The place where the river begins.
tributary
A stream or river that flows into a larger river.
valley
A long low area of land usually between mountains or hills.
