AML
Acute Melogenous Leukemia
what regulates body temp
hypothalamus
TRH -> TSH-> Thyroxine-> epinephrine (increase metabolism) -> vasoconstriction ->increase in glycolysis -> increase metabolic rates
chemical rxns of metabolism
benefits to fever
increase antibody, inferferon, wbc production/mobilization, increase lymphocycte recruitment to nodes, sequestered Fe, increase temp directly inhibits pathogen replication
ALL Acute lymphocytic leukemia
lowered RBCs, WBCs + platelets anemia, neutropenia, DIC + thrombocytopenia, increase upper quad fullness, night sweats, bone pain, lymphadenopathy
children with downs
in children swelling in face, caused by EBV, Africa
Mass involving maxilla or mandible
Burkitts Lymphoma
B cell lymphoma
increase cure rate 83%
young adults

FHX, EBV
painless lymphadenopathy
Hodgkins Lymphoma
b cell lymphoma
14 types
worse prognosis , 59%
fever, wt loss, NIGHT SWEATS
NHL
plasma cell neoplasm-> involvement of skeleton @ different sites.

causes:
group A beta hemolytic strep
delayed exagerated immune response

Rheumatic Fever
Pericarditis
Causes: is viral (90%)
MI, AI ( aortic insufficiency)
trauma
S/S: acute onset chest pain, dyspnea, low grade fever, feeling sick (malaise), might radiate to back, pericardial effusion --> friction rub, depressed P wave (first hump then down spike) + inverted T wave (hump on end inverted)
infection with treponema pallidum
STD, childbirth, transfusion
Primary- painless chancre at site of transmission, 10-90 day incubation
Secondary-non-itchy rash on body
feeling ill

cause:staph aureus,
group a beta strep,
tampons, contraceptive sponges, diaphram, deep wounds

s/s: sudden onset--> high fever, hypotension
sepsis
overwhelming blood infection
Cause: bacterial/viral, any increase in toxins (BM, urine)
S/S: fever, tacchychardia, tacchypnea, diarrhea, DIC, hypotension, u/o, ALOC
HIV/AIDS
S/S: 2-4 weeks ---> fever, ST, lyphadenopathy, rash

Chronic---> wt loss, diarrhea, cough, opportunistic infections, night sweats
Pleurisy
cause: viral, bacterial, AI, TB, Pulmonary Embolism

S/S: SOB, chest pain, increase respirations, infectious sxs
infective endocarditis
cause: poor dental health. indwelling caths, IV, foley, IV drug use, artificial heart valves

cause: fever, fatigue, sore throat, swollen lymph glands--->EBV--->mucosal transmission--->incubation period 4-8 weeks

S/S: malaise, fatigue, headache, arthlagia, viral sxs, dysphagia, enlarged spleen (palpatations) .1-.2% have ruptured spleens
rheumatic fever/post strep glomerulonephritis
complications of laryngitis/pharyngitis
GERD
cause: abnormal esophagel sphincter, foods, ETOH (alcohol), meds, stree, smoking, obesity, peptic ulcer
S/S: heartburn

Barrets esophagus -1% gets cancer
