What happens in interphase?

The cell grows then prepares for cell division by duplicating its genetic material. It's also the longest stage in the cell cycle

What happens in prophase?

The individual chromosomes pair up into x shaped chromosomes and the nuclear membrane begins to break down. Then the spindle fibres begin to form and start to pull to opposite poles of the cell.

What happens in metaphase?

The spindle fibres pull the x shaped chromosomes into a single line across the equator of the cell

What happens in anaphase

The spindle fibres begin to shorten then the x shaped chromosomes pull apart and moves the individual chromatids to opposite poles of the cell

What happens in telophase

This is the final stage in the cell cycle. One complete set of chromosomes is now at each pole of the cell. The spindle fibres also breakdown and a nuclear membrane forms around each set of chromosomes. They also separate completely

What are the stages of mitosis

-interphase

-prophase

-metaphase

-anaphase

-telophase

What are the three phases of interphase

-growth

- preparation

-replication

What happens in early prophase

-The replicated chromosomes pair up into x shaped chromosomes

-the nuclear membrane begins to breakdown

-spindle fibres begin to form

- they begin to stretch across to opposite poles

What happens in late prophase

The spindle fibres finish forming and attach to the x shaped chromosomes at a point called the centromere and the nuclear membrane breaks down completely

What happens in cytokinesis

-the final stage of the cell cycle

-in this stage the one cell containing two nuclei separate into two daughter cells

-the new cells r identical to the original parent cell

What is mitosis

Mitosis is the processes in which the contents of the cells nucleus divide which produces to identical daughter nuclei

What are some organelles that take place in cell division

-DNA

-Spindle Fibres

-Chromosomes

-Nuclei

-Centrioles

Daughter cells form from what ??

The parent cell

Understand the cell cycle

-growth and preparation

- DNA replication

-continued growth and preparation

- Mitosis

- cytokinesis
