What is sleep apnea?

Sleep disorder characterized by abnormal pauses in breathing or instances of abnormal low breathing during sleep

Floppy eyelid syndrome Glaucoma (NTG) NAION - painless onset of vision loss in one eye, often noticed upon awakening Papilledema |

What is eczema? What is it also known as?
|
Dry itchy skin and red rashes that go along with a breakout
Atopic dermatitis |

What are some ocular complications with eczema?
|
Inflamed eyelids: eyelid is inflamed which results in extreme itching, burning, watering of the eyes, and mucous discharge
Deformed cornea: hard rubbing of the eyes can deform the cornea |

What are tx for eczema?
|
Avoid rubbing and scratching the area
Prescription corticosteroid creams |

What is sarcoidosis?
|
It is a disease in which abnormal collections of chronic inflammatory cells (granulomas) form as nodules in multiple organs.

What are some ocular complications with sarcoidosis?
|
Uveitis, uveoparotitis, retinal inflammation which may result in loss of visual acuity or blindness

What does granulomatous mean?
|
Granuloma is a tiny collection of immune cells (macrophages)
They form when the immune system attemps to wall off substances |

What is Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)?
|
A virus of the herpes family and is one of the most common viruses in humans. It is best known to cause infectious mononucleosis

What are some ocular signs of a pt with EBV?
|
Cornea: Stromal keratitis, subepithelial infiltration
Pt will come in with flu like symptoms and tired |

What is peripapillary atrophy?
|
Its when the optic nerve separates while you are developing and causes inflammation which leads to scarring and therefore the atrophy. It is very common in high myopes
|
