Anaconda Plan (4 main parts)

- Blockade the coast of the South to prevent the export of cotton, tobacco, and other cash crops from the South and to keep them from importing much needed war supplies.


- Divide the South by controlling the Mississippi River to cut the South off from the west.


- Divide the South by capturing the Tennessee River Valley and marching through Georgia to the coast.


- Capture Richmond, Virginia, the capital of the Confederate States of America.

Populist Party Goals
Replacing the Democrats as the nation's second party by forming an alliance of the farmers of the West and South with the industrial workers of the East. James B. Weaver was the Populist candidate for President that year, and he polled over 1,041,000 votes.
Immigration Act (1924)
Allowed 2% of immigrant populating living in U.S. in 1890 to enter the country, establish quota system, discriminate against Southern/Eastern European immigrants.

anti-immigrant movement in America, targeted radicals, anarchists, labor unions.
5 Cause of Imperialism
1. Political (nationalism, to be the most powerful country by ruling many other countries). 2. Economical (to use other country's resources, recieve cheap labor, have a market for their goods. i.e. Africa). 3. Religious (to spread their religion. i.e. missionaries) 4. Idealogical (believed that their race was better and had to civilize other people by teaching them. i.e. The White Man's burden) 5. Exploratory (people wanted to explore new lands for mapping, etc.)
