|
Democratic domino effect --> Arab Spring. Knowledge sparks reform movements, ME countries try to catch up to the global democracies.

Literacy
|
Higher literacy reates = greater awareness of economic and social issues. People ask questions --> reforms --> middle class values emerge.

Elections
|
Even corrupt elections are useful in teaching democratic values. It is acknowledging that people can choose their leaders.

Democratic Virtues
|
Stronger democracies = more civic virtues and organizations. People sacrifice, are courageous in doing what's right, show moderation and tolerance --> democratic prospects improve and grow.

Party Development
|
Democracies need strong parties that are built upon moderate principles. Different ideas, recognize other parties' legitimacy. Parties help set up political agendas and sustain democracy.

Realism
|
West is only interested in spheres of influence and oil. ME is unstable --> inviting intervention from those with stronger militaries. Small powers piggyback to be on the powerful side.

Liberalism
|
US intervenes to build democracy --> it's their duty. Encourage democratic development, economic diversification, human rights.

Arab Unity
|
Arab League tries to speak with one voice. Sometimes they want help from the West, sometimes they criticize the West. They pretend they're unified, but that's crap.

Israel
|
1979- Arabs recognized Israel (Egypt & Jordan). Israel claimed Palestinian land and Jerusalem. Arab states say this is unfair and that Israel is being an ass hole.
