Ocular lense |
10X magnification. This is the part of the microscope that you look into the see the specimen. |
Overall function of objective lenses |
Usually 3-4 objective lenses. 4X, 10X, 40X and sometimes 100X. When coupled with the ocular lens (10X)= 4X x 10X= 40X, 100X, 400X, 1000X. Lenses are coloured coded- Red, Yellow, Blue |
Low objective lens details |
Shortest lens and it has the lowest power. 4X Red |
Medium objective lens details |
Medium power and length/size. 10X Yellow |
High objective lens details |
Longest lens and greatest power. Has a retractable lens (spring loaded) so if it hits the slide, the lens will push upwards so that the slide and lens won't get damaged/scratched. 40X Blue |
Stage clips |
The stage clips hold the slide firmly in place so that it doesn't move. |
Stage |
Flat platform that holds the slides, it supports the slides |
Iris diaphragm |
The iris diaphragm has different sized holes which you can use to change the intensity and size of the cone of light which is projected upwards towards the slide. It regulates the light |
Base |
Supports the microscope, its at the bottom of the microscope. |
Arm |
The arm connects the base and the barrel. Supports tub and connects it to the base |
Coarse focus |
The coarse focus raises and lowers the stage for focusing. |
Fine focus |
The fine focus slightly moves the stage to sharpen the image |
Revolving nosepiece |
This is the part of the microscope that holds the objective lenses (2 or more). It can be rotated to change the objective lens in place. |
