What are Antigen (Ag)?
They are substances that cause the body to produce anitbodies or sensitized T cells
What are Antibodies (Ab)?
They are proteins that are made in response to antigens, and they can combine with antigens
What is a Complement?
This is a serum protein that binds to Ab during an Ag-Ab reaction, and can cause cell lysis
What is an Antiserum?
A generic name for serum b/c it contains Ab
What 2 systems circulate cells and proteins that are important for a functional immune system?
Blood and Lymph system
What is the innate immune response system?
comprises the cells and mechanisms that defend the host from infection from other organisms in a non-specific manner.
What are the 2 "natures" of adaptive immunity?
Hummoral Immunity:involves Ab produced by B cells
Cell-Mediated Immunity: involves T-cells
How do B cells recognize Ag?
by Ab's on the surface of Ag's
How do T cells recognize Ag's?
By TCR's on the surface of Ag's
What mediates the innate immune response?
Phagocytes
What do Phagocytes recognize?
They recognize PAMPs: pathogen-associated molecular patterns via a family of PRMs: Pattern recognizition molecules
PAMPs?
pathogen-associated molecular pattern
PRMs
Pattern recognize molecules
