Small 'c' calorie

A unit of energy.


Defined as the amount of energy needed to raise one (1) gram of water one (1) degree Celcius.

Big 'C' Calorie

a.k.a. Kilocalorie.


Think "Food Related."


Kilocalorie, or Calorie, is equal to 1,000 calories.

A measure of a person's energy use.

Basal Metabolic Rate

Metabolic Rate when at rest.


Often valued at 1,680 Calories per day.

Males: 3,000 Calories per day.


Have more muscle, body weight, mass so takes more Calories to keep engine running.


Females: 2,500 Calories per day.

Burn this many more Calories than you take in, and BAM, you lose a pound.


So basically, if you don't eat for a day, you lose a pound.
