A smooth membrane consisting of 2 layers which secrete serous (H20-like) fluid. The outer layer (lining the bodily cavity) is the parietal serosa, the inner layer (lining the organs) is the visceral serosa.

The parietal and visceral layer of serosa are made up of what?

One layer of scale-like cells/ simple squamous epithelium

What serous membrane surrounds the lungs?

Pleura

What is the serous membrane located around the heart called?

Pericardium/epicardium/pericardial sac

What is the serous membrane covering the guts called?

Peritoneum

What is a double-fold of peritoneum called?

Messentery

What is the Greater & Lesser omentum?
A double-fold of messentery that starts from the greater and lesser curvatures of the stomach (respectively) and wraps around the guts.

Describe mucous membranes and give examples of where they're located.

Mucous membranes are thick & viscous. They line the upper respiratory tract, oro-, naso-, and laryngopharanx. They line openings to the body like the vagina, urethra, esophagus and rectum.

What are the two main cavities of the body?

Dorsal & Ventral

Name the two sub-cavities of the Dorsal cavity and their partition.

Cranial (houses brain) and Vertebral (houses spinal cord) cavity. The Foramen Magnum separates the 2 cavities.

Name the two sub-cavities of the Ventral cavity and their partition.

Thoracic (lungs, mediastinum and everything behind sternum) and Abdomino-pelvic cavity (guts, rectum). The Diaphragm separates the 2 cavities. The iliopectineal line divides the abdominal cavity from the pelvic.
