the sign is determined by what happens in the cell by the direction of the flow of the ions. for ex. what is an electrogenic pump?

this is a pump that pumps out more of one charge than another. with the Na+K+ pump, more Na+ are pumped out of the cell and more K+ are pumped in the cell.
