Inhibits spread of electrical activity
Onset / Duration
IV – 1.5 min / 2 hrs
IM – 15 min / 2hrs
Indications
Major motor seizures, premedication for cardioversion or TCP, sedation associated with intubation, muscle spasms, acute anxiety, agitation
Contraindications
Hypotension, altered mental status, narrow-angle glaucoma
Precautions
Monitor respiratory status
Side Effects
Laryngospasm, bronchospasm, respiratory depression, drowsiness, amnesia, altered mental status
Interactions
CNS depressants or alcohol
Dosage
RSI: 0.1 mg / kg IV, max 10 mg
Other Sedation / Seizure: 2.5 – 10 mg IV or IM
