ROUTE:PO, IV ONSET:36-72hr PEAK:5-7days DURATION:2-5days

round scored tablet with coumadin on top. pink 1mg, purple 2mg, green 2.5mg, brown 3mg, blue 4mg, tan 5mg, dark teal 6mg, yellow 7.5, white 10mg.

*inhibit production of vit. K in the liver. Prevents clot formation or prevents an already-formed clot from gowing larger.

SIDE EFFECTS~GI:cramps, nausea. DERM:dermal necrosis. HEMAT:Bleeding MISC:Fever

CHECK:for bleeding esp. gums, check PT/INR, PTT, hold according to MD guidelines
INTERACTIONS:DRUG-DRUG~Abciximab, androgens,capecitabine, cefoperazone, cefotetan, chloral hydrate, chloramphenicol, clopidogrel, disulfiram, fluconazole, fluoroquinolones, itraconazole, metronidazole, thrombolytics, eptifibatide, tirofiban, ticlopidine, sulfonamids, quinidine, quinine, NSAIDs, valproates, ASA, Chronic alcohol.

DRUG-NATURAL PRODUCTS~St. John's wort decrease effect. Increased bleeding risk w/anise, arnica, chamomile,clove, dong quai, fenugreek, feverfew, garlic, ginger, ginkgo, panax ginseng, licorice.

DRUG-FOOD~Ingetion of large quantities of foods high in vit. K.
(Lovenox) enoxaparin

SIDE EFFECTS~CNS: dizziness, headache, insomnia. CV:edema. GI: constipation, nausea, reversible increase in liver enzymes, vomiting.
GU: urinary retention.
Derm: ecchymoses, pruritus, rash, urticaria.
Hemat: BLEEDING, anemia, thrombocytopenia.
Local: erythema at injection site, hematoma, irritation, pain. Misc: fever.
INTERACTIONS:
DRUG-DRUG~Risk of bleeding may be ↑ by concurrent use of drugs that affect platelet function and coagulation, including warfarin, aspirin, NSAIDs, dipyridamole, some penicillins, clopidogrel, ticlopidine, abciximab, eptifibatide, tirofiban,thrombolytics and dextran.

DRUG-NATURAL PRODUCTS~↑ bleeding risk with, arnica, chamomile, clove, feverfew, garlic, ginger, ginkgo, Panax ginseng, and others.
